Sodium Sulfide Update

A letter from the Division of Healthy Homes and Childhood Head Poisoning Prevention (DHHL) regarding Sodium Sulfide.

Dear Licensed Code Enforcement Lead Determinator,

CLPPP was recently informed of a continued supply chain issue affecting the availably of sodium sulfide. As you know, sodium sulfide is critical to support local health in performing lead determinations. We are working with the State Public Health Laboratory and General Counsel to understand and evaluate our options. For reference, the sodium sulfide solution used for lead determinations must consist of 6-8% solution and has traditionally only been available through the State Lab.

Unfortunately, we do not have an estimated in-stock date at this time. In the interim, CLPPP will fulfill lead determinations requests from occupants. CLPPP code enforcement inspectors will perform lead determinations using XRF analyzers. Occupants can request a lead determination from CLPPP by completing a parental request form. It's currently available in English and Spanish. Please let interested parents know that we will do our best to respond in a timely fashion, but we must prioritize our poisoned child case load.

Finally, please feel free to reach out to me directly with questions or concerns. We are considering several different options to ensure we can continue this important partnership. We would love to hear from you if you have suggestions or additional information to consider as we explore our options.

Best,

Alicia L. Bessette
